Suriname’s Foreign Minister Meets Bruno Rodriguez

CUBA, January 13, 2010 ----- Suriname's Foreign Minister Lygia Louise Irene Kraag-Keteldijk met Wednesday with Cuba’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodriguez.

Her agenda in Cuba includes meeting Vice President Ricardo Cabrisas, and touring sites of social and cultural interest.

Upon her arrival in Havana, Ms Kraag-Keteldijk said that high on her agenda was taking part in the official opening of her country’s embassy in Havana, which opened in an unofficial capacity December 2008.

The Surinamese Foreign Minister said bilateral relations between Cuba and Suriname are excellent, and she also expressed gratitude for the work of Cuban professionals stationed in her country.

Cuba and Suriname established diplomatic relations on May 31, 1979.

At present, there are over 30 Cubans working in Suriname, whereas 58 Surinamese youths are studying in Cuba, 27 of them in the Latin American School of Medicine. (Cubaminrex - RHC)
