Brazil to Use Cuban Literacy Teaching Method

CUBA, Feb 23, 2010. -  The Cuban Yes I Can literacy teaching method will be used in Brazil, where in 2005 a pilot project was carried out with this method in the state of Piaui.

The government of the South American country has decided to use this program implemented in several Latin American nations with positive results, the Granma newspaper reports.

In order to do so, Cuban professionals have been sent to five Brazilian states, where the Yes I Can is underway with the help of the Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture.

The Landless Workers Movement also plans to teach its farmers in Fortaleza, the capital of Ceara, and in Joao Pessoa, in the state of Paraiba, how to read and write.

After 65 video-classes -a record time for courses of this type, which usually take from eight to six months- students learn how to read and write with the Yes I Can method. (Cubaminrex - acn)
