Cuba Highlights Regional Integration in Venezuela VENEZUELA, Jul 3, 2010.- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez highlighted the given steps towards the regional integration, starting with the creation of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC). Rodríguez considered that after the creation of CELAC in Cancun, Mexico, less than 5 months ago, the path to follow to materialize Latin American and Caribbean unity seems much simpler. The Cuban minister pointed out topics without definition such as the mechanisms of debate, meeting frequency and institutions to foster the block, formed by 33 Latin American and Caribbean countries. He also expressed Havana’s support to the creation of a unified forum -presided by Venezuela and Chile- to fulfil the agreements in Cancun in February. This forum and a working group to support the work of CELAC were the central points of the declaration approved Saturday by the Foreign Ministers of the region. The meeting was characterized by calls to regional unity over economic, political and cultural differences. The forum in Caracas outlined the positions for the summit that will be organized by Venezuela to be held on July 5, 2011 to foster the work of CELAC. (Cubaminrex - Prensa Latina)
