Ceremony to Mark Bicentennial of Colombian Independence Held in Cuba

CUBA, July 21, 2010.-  Cuba marked the bicentennial of the Colombian Independence with the laying of a wreath at the statue of Simon Bolivar at a park by the same name in Havana city.

Colombian Embassy’s Business Attaché Carlos Enrique Cartagena and museum specialist Dora Cancio presided over the ceremony attended by officials from the Cuban Friendship Institute and members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Havana.

Later, an roving exhibition from the Simon Bolivar National Museum displaying several masterpieces from different nations was inaugurated.

Cartagena told ACN news agency assured that the figure of Simon Bolivar, The Liberator, is not a symbol only for Colombian but for all Latin America.

Colombia declared its independence from Spain on July 20, 1810 as part of the emancipation movement that erupted on several countries throughout the Americas after several centuries of Spanish domination. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
