Cuban project for the teaching of Spanish language continues successfully in Suriname

Suriname, March 18, 2010. The second phase of the Project for teaching Spanish language in Suriname started last November and continues to be a success. Cuban professors Dr.Vilma Páez and Dr. Noel Fernandez, both from the Oscar Moya University in the Holguín province are now working in Suriname as part of this Project.

The Cuban professors have given several workshops on topics such as linguistic methodology, Spanish grammar and sociolinguistics. More than 80 Spanish teachers from all over the country participated in these workshops which were also an opportunity to discuss sociocultural aspects of the Hispanic world, particularly Cuba.

The Cuban experts advise their Surinamese counterparts on didactic methods to teach Spanish as a foreign language, designing and evaluating the curriculum and other topics that are included in the project.

The project for teaching the Spanish language is part of the Program of Cooperation that was approved in the Fourth Session of the Joint Commission Cuba-Suriname.

This phase of the project will conclude in August this year. As part of the program a group of Surinamese Spanish language teachers will attend the 7th International Conference on Languages, Communication and Culture “WEFLA 2010” which will be held from 22 -24 April in the province of Holguín this year.
