First VP Machado Ventura in Uruguay for President-Elect Jose Mujica’s Inauguration

CUBA, Mar 1, 2010. -  Cuban First VP Jose Ramon Machado Ventura was received on Sunday by Uruguayan outgoing President Tabare Vazquez and by President-elect Jose Mujica.

In both meetings, Machado Ventura was accompanied by the Cuban ambassador in Uruguay, Carmen Zilia Perez, and he passed on greetings from the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and from President Raul Castro.

The Cuban high-ranking official and the Uruguayan leaders ratified the excellent state of bilateral relations and the willingness to continue expanding cooperation in different sectors.

Machado Ventura is in the South American nation accompanied by the island’s Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra for Mujica’s swearing-in ceremony on Monday at the Plaza Independencia in Montevideo.

This will be the second consecutive administration in Uruguay by the leftist Frente Amplio coalition. (Cubaminrex - acn)
