Informative IOL internship concluded in Cuba Suriname, May 4, 2010. Trained cadres should keep on educating themselves in their field of expertise in order to contribute to the development of human resources. The ambassador of Suriname in Cuba emphasized this at the closing of the three-week internship of a delegation of the Advanced Teachers Training College (IOL) in the province of Matanzas. Antonius also emphasized the importance of the established cooperation between Suriname and Cuba with regard to updating training of cadres. According to Marianne Monkau, coordinator of the Spanish language Department of the IOL, this internship was very successful because of the exchange of knowledge about the Spanish language education, the cultural exchange and the Surinamese participation in the International Language Conference that was held from 19 – 25 April at the University of Holguín. There were also exploratory talks between the management of the IOL and that of the University of Matanzas. These talks concentrated on studying modalities to continue and possibly expand the existing cooperation. According to Antonius after consultation between relevant stakeholders in both countries, it will be examined how under the framework of the bilateral cooperation the results of the exploratory talks between the IOL and the University of Matanzas can be implemented. From this basis, new cooperation agreements can be made. The delegation consisted of the management of the IOL and twenty Spanish language teachers from various education institutes of Paramaribo and other districts. The delegation was in Cuba since 9 April under the framework of the cooperation agreements between Suriname and Cuba with regard to higher education. The most important objective of the internship was to improve among other things the Spanish language skills for the Spanish language education in Suriname. Under the framework of this cooperation, several Cuban experts have contributed in Paramaribo to improving the curriculum of the MO – A-course of the IOL, and they have also given courses for the MO-B course. At the conclusion of the internships the participants received certificates from Angel Mendoza Torriente, vice rector of the University of Matanzas. They also received a book about the life of Che Guevara. The Surinamese delegation returned from Cuba last Friday.(Cubaminrex- EmbaCuba Suriname)
