Cuba, Antigua draw, advance to Caribbean Cup ST. KITTS Y NEVIS, November 19, 2010.- Cuba was denied by the crossbar and drew 0-0 with Antigua & Barbuda on Sunday, a result that sent both teams to the Digicel Caribbean Cup finals. Cuba finished with five points in second-round Group G and just ahead of Antigua on goal difference, which was held scoreless for a second straight match. Armando Isidoro lobbed Cuba's best chance off the bar in the 36th minute in a game that saw both teams combine for 26 offside calls. Isidoro also had a chance cleared off the line by Karanja Mack and Antigua's best moment came when Jamie Thomas' shot in off the post was voided for a foul in the second half. In the earlier match, Suriname got five goals from five different players - twice just before halftime - to overwhelm Dominica. Naldo Kwaise scored in the 45th and Ives Vlijter added another a minute later to spark the Surinamese. Emilio Limon and Roche Emanuelson increased the lead with goals in the 56th and 75th minutes and Stefano Rijsssel completed the rout in the 88th. The victory gave Suriname a chance of advancing with a victory by Antigua over Cuba, but the draw denied it a chance to fight for a berth in next year's CONCACAF Gold Cup. The Caribbean Cup finals will award four berths in next year's Gold Cup, set for June 5-25. (Cubaminrex-Embacuba St. Kitts y Nevis) |
