The Cuba-Bolivia Inter-parliamentary Commission Opens Sessions in Havana

CUBA, November 9, 2010.- The 4th Inter-parliamentary meeting between Cuba and Bolivia began on Monday in this capital, with the presence of the top authorities of the Cuban Parliament and of the Senate and the House of Deputies of the Andean nation.

Important topics will be debated during the meeting, among them the coordination of actions between the parliaments of the countries that are members of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas (ALBA).

Debated as well will be the validity of the analysis on climate change and the next summit on the issue to be held in the Mexican city of Cancun, as well as aspects related to the process of regional integration and the updating of bilateral relations and of cooperation between Cuba and Bolivia.

In an exclusive interview with ACN, Rene Martinez, president of the Senate of the Bolivian State, pointed out that the processes of changes Latin American nations are going through, particularly in his country, should allow for an exchange of experiences and have an agenda of integration to deepen into these processes in various spheres.

In parallel with this –he added-, we should tackle issues of international nature, like the rights of Mother Earth, with a new proposal that should be debated in our societies.

For his part, Hector Enrique Arce, president of the House of Deputies, described the meeting as historic, because this is the first time that the top parliamentary authorities of the two parties meet.

There’s a great wish to make progress -emphasized Arce- in a genuine, real, far-reaching and historic process of integration between the two peoples.

Cuban Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon welcomed visitors and pointed out that Bolivians, immersed in a process of re-founding of the State, have the great privilege and the historic opportunity of experiencing a genuine popular revolution.

Also attending the meeting were Senator Adolfo Mendoza, president of the Bolivia-Cuba Friendship Parliamentary Commission, and Gabriella Montaño and Javier Zabaleta, vice-presidents of that entity.

Representing Cuba were Ana Fidelia Quirot, vice-president of the Cuba-Bolivia Parliamentary Group; Ramon Pez Ferro, President of the Commission of International Relations of the National Assembly of the People’s Power (Parliament), and other deputies and officials.
