CUBA, November 3, 2010.- Esteban Lazo, Vice-president of the Council of State, participated in the state funeral for the Prime Minister of Barbados, the Honorable David John Howard Thompson, carried out on Wednesday, November 3. Lazo expressed the condolences of the Cuban government and people to the authorities of that fraternal nation, according to a report by the National Television Newscast. During his stay in the neighboring country –one of the first four states of the region to establish diplomatic relations with Cuba in 1972-, the Cuban leader placed a wreath by the monument to the martyrs of the sabotage of 1976, when a Cubana airliner exploded in mid air off the coast of Barbados as a consequence of a terrorist attack, in which all 73 people on board died. Present in the ceremony were representatives of the movement of solidarity with Cuba, the Committee in Favor of the Release of The Five, and the Barbadian Foreign Ministry. For this visit, Lazo was accompanied by Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra. (Cubaminrex-Cuban News Agency)
