Federation of Trade Unions and NGOs in Trinidad and Tobago Demand End of US Blockade of Cuba. CUBA , November 4, 2010.- The Federation of Independent Trade Unions and Non Governmental Organizations of Trinidad y Tobago (FITUN) demanded the lifting of Washington’s almost 50 year-old economic, financial and commercial blockade of Cuba. According to Prensa Latina news agency, this organization issued a declaration reiterating its support of and solidarity with the Cuban people thus joining an overwhelming majority of the United Nations member states that recently condemned this unjust policy for the 19th consecutive year at the UN General Assembly. The statement also refers to the negative impact that the blockade has had on the Cuban economy’s development. Among other restrictions, these unilateral restrictions limit the import and export of products and services from and to the United States and the use by Cuba of American dollars in international transactions.
