Plans to Initiate Laying of Submarine Cable Between Cuba and Venezuela Continue.

CUBA, November 4, 2010.-  In January, 2011, a submarine cable connecting Cuba, Venezuela, and Jamaica to improve more independent communications will be laid down.

According to Waldo Reboredo, the vice-president of the Cuban-Venezuelan company, Telecommunications Gran Caribe, all the plans and preparations for the work are ready for the installation of the 70 million dollar project.

Reboredo said that the cable will triple the velocities of transmission of information, photos, and voice via the internet and will achieve economic development in the participating countries.

The optic fiber cable will be effective starting July 2011, and has a projected duration of approximately 25 years. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
