Commander of the Revolution Guillermo Garcia Visits La Higuera, in Bolivia.

CUBA, September 2, 2010.-  Commander of the Revolution Guillermo Garcia Frias visited La Higuera, in the department of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, where Ernesto Che Guevara was assassinated in 1967.

Dressed in his inseparable olive green uniform, Garcia Frias, who is also a Hero of the Republic of Cuba and one of Che’s companions in the guerrilla battles of the Sierra Maestra Mountains, said he considered it an honor to be able to visit the hamlet where health services in charge of Cuban voluntary workers are top quality.

In a doctor’s office, he spoke at length with physicians Luisa Martha Hernandez and German Martinez, and urged them to follow the example of the Heroic Guerrilla. Accompanied by Rafael Dausa, Cuba’s ambassador to Bolivia, Garcia Frias entered the museum, which used to be the small school in which Che Guevara was assassinated. The walls of the museum have several inscriptions that say messages like “You’ll live forever Commander, friend.”

He also spoke with Bolivian children studying in primary schools in neighboring areas and urged them to be good professionals to build the new Bolivia. The Commander of the Revolution, also toured the Mausoleum to Che Guevara in Vallegrande on Tuesday where his remains where found in 1997. Garcia Frias headed the delegation that presented the book The Strategic Victory, by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, and included a ceremony attended by President Evo Morales.
