CARICOM Urges US to Lift Blockade against Cuba

BARBADOS, June 13, 2010. The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has asked US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to put an end to the economic, financial, and commercial blockade her country has imposed on Cuba for nearly 50 years.

After a meeting in Barbados, the CARICOM President, and Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, told the press he once again transmitted to the visitor the bloc's rejection of the US blockade against Cuba, which has been condemned by the UN General Assembly in the last 18 years.

The official also praised his country's relations with Venezuela, which became stronger after the island entered the Petrocaribe energy project, and the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America, a regional cooperation mechanism.
