Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica Condemns Sham Trial against Terrorist Luis Posada Carriles
JAMAICA, 19 April 2011.- The Association of Cubans Residents in Jamaica, outraged by the judicial farce in which confessed terrorist Luis Posada Carriles was prosecuted, condemned his acquittal and brought to mind that the Five Cuban antiterrorists are still unjustly imprisoned for carrying out actions aimed at preventing terrorist acts against our people and other peoples of the world.
The unabridged text of the statement issued by the ACRJ, reads as follows:
“The Association of Cubans Residents in Jamaica condemns the acquittal of terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, at the sham trial ended in El Paso, Texas, last April 8, 2011. The judicial farce in which the District Attorney accused the confessed terrorist of 11 counts of perjury, immigration fraud and obstruction of justice, conveniently avoided the 73 charges on terrorist attacks weighing against Posada Carriles, including his involvement in the bombing of a CUBANA jetliner off the coasts of Barbados in 1976 which claimed the lives of all 73 passengers and the 1997 string of bombings in Havana in which young Italian tourist Fabio di Celmo, lost his life.
For all those who know the sinister career of Posada Carriles, his ties with the successive US administrations, the FBI, the CIA and the most reactionary and aggressive groups of Miami-based Cuban counter-revolutionaries, his involvement in terrorist acts, assassination plots, destabilising actions against legitimate governments, which are sufficiently documented and proved, it becomes evident that Posada Carriles has always counted on the support and backing of the US authorities, which neither have wanted to prosecute him for the horrendous crimes committed, nor have agreed to extradite him to Venezuela, a provision they are legally bound to comply with by virtue of the international agreements signed by that government.
It is an insult to the relatives of the Cubans killed in the bombing of the CUBANA jetliner and to all Cubans wherever we are, that the assassins enjoy absolute freedom and impunity in the United States, while the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters are still suffering unjust imprisonment, for their fight against the actions of assassins and terrorists like Luis Posada Carriles.
For that reason, we strongly condemn the verdict of this sham trial and demand that Luis Posada Carriles is taken to justice for the crimes committed or extradited to Venezuela, as established in the international agreements of which the government of the United Sates is a signatory.
