Cuba, El Salvador Women Leaders Meet EL SALVADOR, April 1, 2011.- Yolanda Ferrer, Secretary General of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), held a meeting with women MPs and leaders from El Salvador. In the meeting, held last Thursday at the Cuban embassy, participants addressed the situation of the women in both nations, in an atmosphere of cordiality. Norma Guevara, head of the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN) parliamentary group; Tania de Handal, widow of the FMLN’s historic leader Schafik Handal, as well as other parliamentarians and leaders of that party attended the gathering. Ferrer, also accompanied by Yanira Kuper, from the FMC National Committee, detailed the progress made by women in Cuba since the triumph of the Revolution on 1 January 1959. The General Secretary FMC arrived in San Salvador last Sunday to attend, together with President Mauricio Funes, the opening of the first government-run Ciudad Mujer (Women City) project, aimed at giving full support to women.
