Day Celebrated in Havana

CUBA, December 8, 2011.-   On December 8, 1972, the Governments of Jamaica, Guyana, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago, established diplomatic relations with Cuba. Thirty years later, in 2002, the Heads of State and Government of the Community of Caribbean States (CARICOM), gathered in Havana to commemorate the date, decided to celebrate Cuba-CARICOM  Day every December 8th.

This year, members of the  Caribbean Diplomatic Corps  accredited in Cuba participate at the Cuba-CARICOM  Day´s celebrations, which included the laying of a wreath at the Monument to José Martí at the Revolution Square, this morning.  

Cuban First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marcelino Medina, and Marielena Ruiz Capote, Head of Latin America at the Chancery, were present at the ceremony as well as other officials.

During today´s afternoon, the San Francisco de Paula Church will host a politic-cultural event  with the participation of “Entre Voces” Choir directed by Digna Guerra. Representatives of Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture and other institutions will attend the event as well as Caribbean youth studying in Cuba.
