Cuban Children’s Theatre Company Attends Mexican Festival.

CUBA, January 10th, 2011.- The Cuban children's theater company La Colmenita, based in Havana, are in the Mexican town of Merida as part of the celebrations for the 469th anniversary of its founding.

During their stay the young members of the company visited the site of the ancient Mayan city, Chichen Itza, in search of inspiration for their theatrical presentations and also to learn details about the history of the ancient Maya civilization.

Chichen Itza, which means "Wizard of the land Water" is located in Yucatan and was founded in 525 AD. The remaining constructions have a large number of architectural and iconographic elements.

In 1988 it was declared a World Heritage Site by the Organization of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). (Cubamnirex-RHC)
