Foreign Ministries of Panama and Cuba hold talks H.E. Mr. Álvaro Alemán Healy underlined the importance of holding this Political Consultation Meeting as a mechanism of permanent dialogue between the Foreign Ministries of both countries. On the other hand, the Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister acknowledged the potentials currently existing to diversify and expand the bonds between our two nations. Likewise, he extended appreciation to his counterpart for Panama’s traditional support to the struggle of the Cuban people against the unjust, economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States for nearly 50 years. This was also an auspicious meeting for both Deputy Foreign Ministers to dialogue on other matters of interest of both the regional and international agendas. The distinguished guess was accompanied by H.E. Mr. Luis Carlos Cleghorn Palomino, Ambassador of Panama to Cuba; Mr. Alfredo Castillero Hoyos, Director General for Foreign Policy; Mr. Roberto Jované, Head of the Western Hemisphere Department; Mr. Elías Vargas, Head of the Treaty Department and Mr. Otto Escartin, Lawyer of the General Division of Legal Matters and Treaties of the Foreign Ministry of that country.
The signing ceremony of the minutes of the meeting between both countries’ foreign ministries took place in the afternoon, which ratified the issues debated during the meeting and set the course to be followed by the relations until the holding of next year’s round of political consultations.
