Lazo arrives in Haiti.

HAITI, May 14, 2011.- Esteban Lazo Hernandez, vice president of the Council of State, was received on Friday by outgoing President Rene Preval at the Presidential Palace in the capital, an occasion on which they reviewed the fruitful bilateral cooperation relations.

The Cuban leader acknowledged the granting of the highest award of the Republic of Haiti to the Cuban Medical Brigade for their work in the fight against severe cholera epidemic that this Caribbean nation has suffered from since mid-October last year.

The Cuban Vice President was also received by President-elect Michael Martelly at his offices in Bourdon en Petionville.

Martelly expressed the desire to maintain and strengthen the collaborative links between the two neighboring countries, while Lazo reiterated Cuba's willingness to continue cooperation and work for the most sacred, which are the people.

The Head of the Cuban delegation also met with Jean Max Bellerive, outgoing Prime Minister at his official residence in the capital, a meeting which revealed the development of the ties between both nations.

By late afternoon, the also a member of the Politburo of the Party, had a working meeting in the embassy with the heads of missions of our cooperation in Haiti, linked to various sectors, also attended by the Ambassador Ricardo Garcia.

Lazo arrived yesterday at the head of the delegation of our country, which also includes Marcelino Medina, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, to attend the inauguration ceremony of the President-elect Michael Martelly, to be held today in the National Parliament.
