Cuba Establishes Diplomatic Relations with the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS)

SAINT LUCIA, November 30, 2011.- The headquarters of the Secretariat of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States in Saint Lucia witnessed, this November 30, the official establishment of diplomatic relations of Cuba with that organization. OECS Director General, Len Ishmael, received the credentials accrediting Cuban Ambassador in Saint Lucia, Lydia González Navarro, as Permanent Representative of Cuba to that regional organization. In her welcoming speech, Director General highlighted the fruitful relations between Cuba and Caribbean member states, stating Cuba as an example of South-South relations.

The Cuban diplomat praised the special relations of friendship Cuba has with the Caribbean nations, recalling that next December 8th, will be the 38th Anniversary of the joint decision by Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados, to establish diplomatic relations with Cuba challenging the isolation policy imposed to Cuba at the moment. Ambassador González Navarro appreciated the overwhelming support by the Caribbean states to Cuba and against the blockade. Cuban Ambassador conveyed Cuba´s willingness to support the countries of the region and the organization.
