Cuban Residents in Jamaica Speak about Cuban Culture-related Issues on a Leading TV Morning Show
JAMAICA, October 31, 2011.- Last October 31, members of the Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica (ACRJ) appeared on the leading morning TV show “Smile Jamaica”.
During that popular TV program, Aracelis Duffus, President of the ACRJ and her son, Leroy Anedu, spoke about different aspects of the Cuban culture.
The ACRJ president also spoke about the bonds existing between the peoples of Cuba and Jamaica, cemented through the contact and smooth exchange which dates back to many years. She emphasized that one of the objectives of the ACRJ work is to keep the sense of identity and the Cuban consciousness of the Cubans residing in Jamaica, without forgetting the Jamaican tradition. In turn, young Leroy made a demonstration of the “saoco”, a well known drink made with rum and coconut water, very popular in the Eastern provinces of Cuba.
This TV appearance was part of the activities carried out on the occasion of the Day of the Cuban Culture. In the context of this cultural season, an exhibition of posters and photographs of our Five Heroes was displayed and a political and cultural function was held on the very same evening of October 20. For the closing ceremony of this cultural season, the screening of a Cuban film at the Latin American Movie Festival in Kingston has been scheduled for Monday, October 31st in the evening.
