A leading Jamaican newspaper published statement written by Cuban Residents in Montego Bay on the case of our Five Heroes

JAMAICA, September 2, 2011. Last Friday, September 2, the important Jamaican newspaper, “The Gleaner” published the text of the Statement issued by the Montego Bay Committee to Free the Five
The abovementioned Committee, made up of Cubans residing in that important Jamaican city, took that media action at a time when the 6th International Campaign to demand the release of the Five Cuban antiterrorist fighters is just being opened.
In the abovesaid Statement (written in English) it is highlighted that the Five are innocent, but, they will shortly serve 13 years of unjust sentence for attempting to gather information on the actions of the Miami-based terrorist groups. Some of the key moments of the case are also mentioned, including the well- known position adopted in 2005 by the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (Human Rights Commission).
The text of the statement underlines that the main obstacle to garner solidarity with the Five Heroes is the media silence surrounding the case, and in that respect, some websites are provided from which the Jamaican public can retrieve extensive information about this case. The statement ends by urging President Barack Obama to use his constitutional powers to release the Five immediately.
“The Gleaner” is a nationwide circulation newpapeer
