TANZANIA, September 8th, 2011. President of Tanzania, Jakaya M. Kikwete, has sent a condolence message to Cuban President Raul Castro, following the untimely death of General Julio Casas Regueiro, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba, vice-president of the Council of State and minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba. In his message, President Kikwete said he received with great shock and dismay the news about the passing away of General Julio Casas Regueiro. “At this moment of national mourning, allow me to take this opportunity, on behalf of the government and people of the United Republic of Tanzania, and, indeed, on my own behalf, to express our most heartfelt condolences to you, and through you to the government and people of Cuba” Kikwete said in his message. He further noted that General Regueiro would be remembered not only for his great contribution to Cuba’s independence and international peace, but also for his political vision and solidarity with developing countries.
