Prime Minister of Barbados expresses Blockade against Cuba Should be Lifted
UNITED NATINOS, NEW YORK, September 25 of 2011. - Prime Minister of Barbados Freundel Stuart expressed that the decades-long economic blockade against Cuba is outlived and should be lifted, during the high-level segment that opened the sessions of the 66th General Assembly of the United Nations in New York.
To the plenary, and in a 20-minute intervention, Stuart made clear the position of his country to the genocidal imperial policy that has led to the Cuban people untold losses and damages of any kind.
He also made clear in his speech that the government and people of Barbados considers Cuba an indispensable member of the Caribbean community and "... since 1972 has maintained a policy of constructive engagement and cooperation with Cuba ...", thus recalling that Barbados, with Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad / Tobago, restored diplomatic relations with Cuba in a very difficult context, a gesture that Cubans have in a very high value and that the very leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, has pointed out on many of his remarks.
"Barbados respects the rights of the people of Cuba for its sovereignty and called for their full integration in our hemisphere," Stuart concluded with this phrase reminded, when the Caribbean Community in the framework of the Summit of the Americas (Trinidad / Tobago 2009) made a unanimous call on President Obama to lift the blockade.
