Ambassadress of Cuba Participates in the Annual Awards Ceremony for Excellence in Education SAINT LUCIA, January 24th, 2012.- The Ambassadress of Cuba, Lydia González Navarro participated in the Annual Awards Ceremony for Excellence in Education, as part of the activities undertaken during Nobel Laureates’ Week, held under the auspices of Governor General on the island, Dame Pearlette Louisy. Saint Lucia celebrates every year the honor of having two Nobel Laureates, Sir William Arthur Lewis (1915-1991); distinguished Economist, winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1979 and Hon. Derek Alton Walcott, awarded with the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1992. The Awards Ceremony for Excellence in Education becomes a special stimulus for young people, teachers and schools with the best results, as much in the field of teaching as research. The session, to which the Diplomatic Corps accredited on the island was invited, counted on the presence of the Governor General on the island, the Second in Command, Honorable Phillip J. Pierre, the Minister of Education and Labor, Hon.
