Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Meets with Special Envoy of Australian Prime Minister

HAVANA, January 27, 2012.- The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, met, yesterday afternoon, with John McCarthy, Special Envoy to the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Australia, who is in an official visit to Cuba.
During the exchange, both authorities ratified the common willingnes to develop and strengthen the bilateral ties. Likewise, the meeting was opportunity to discuss international issues of common interest.
The distinguished visitor was accompanied by H.E. Katrina Cooper, Australian Ambassador to Cuba and Mr. James Yeomans, First Secretary of the Australian mission.
Cuban Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marcos Rodríguez Costa, and other officials from the Chancery were also present during the meeting.
Special Envoy John McCarthy visits Havana to participate at the inauguration of the cultural exhibition “Australian Journey”, the first of its kind within the bilateral relations between Cuba and Australia. The event´s inauguration, carried out yesterday, January 26, coincided with the National Day of Australia, celebrated for first time in Cuba.
The event will also have  three arts exhibitions  proposing a panoramic view of the native contemporary art of Australia.
Durig his visit, McCarthy will hold a meeting with Dr. Eusebio Leal, Historian of the City of Havana.
