Ministries of Health of Jamaica and Cuba Sign Agreement for Medical Technical Assistance
JAMAICA, January 20, 2012.- Last Tuesday, in a ceremony held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health, the new bilateral agreement governing the Technical Assistance Cuba would provide Jamaica in the public health sector during the forthcoming months, was signed.
On behalf of the Jamaican Government, the agreement was signed by Dr. Fenton Ferguson, Minister of Health, while Ambassador Yuri Gala López would affix his signature to the text on behalf of Cuba. Afterwards they both made statements to the local media. Within this framework, Minister Ferguson thanked the Government and people of Cuba for the cooperation offered to Jamaica in this important area.
With the signing of this new agreement, continuity of the actions taken within the framework of the previous agreement signed in July 2009, is ensured, which is a proof of the close ties of friendship and cooperation that have existed between both countries for decades.
At present, the Cuban Medical Brigade in Jamaica is made up of 94 specialists who provide their health services in almost all the parishes of this sister Caribbean nation. (Cubaminrex/ Embacuba Jamaica)
