Cuba and Paraguay Reinforce Bilateral Relations

HAVANA, February 9, 2012.- As an opportunity to strengthen the bilateral ties and the unity among Latin American peoples, the minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Paraguay, Jorge Lara Castro, qualified his visit to Cuba.
The Paraguayan Minister considered during the conversations with his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, that the Caribbean nation continues to be a reference to the world amid these difficult moments for Humankind.
Likewise, Lara Castro recognized the value of the regional integration and the importance of sharing experiences and ideas to the benefit of both nations.  
Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs added that the bilateral relations are satisfactory and encompass all spheres.
Cuba and Paraguay established diplomatic relations in 1902, however these were severed in December, 1960, to later be reestablished at consular level on August 1, 1996, and at diplomatic level on November 8, 1999.
Around 900 Paraguayan students have graduated in Cuba in different specialties. Curently, there are 449 Paraguayans studying in Cuba.
Cuban collaborators work in Paraguay in the Health sector, especially in Operation Miracle, addressed to the treatment of ophthalmological diseases. Up to december,  2011, 16,674 Paraguayans had benefited from this program. Likewise, Cuba participates at the efforts to eliminate illiteracy with the method “Yes, I can” (Yo sí puedo)
