US Lacks Moral Authority to Judge Others

By Deisy Francis Mexidor and Elson Concepción Pérez

CUBA, April 16th, 2009. The United States long record of terrorism leaves its government without the moral and political authority to judge Cuba, said Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla on Thursday.

In his address to a ministerial meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non Aligned Movement (NAM), Rodriguez ¶answered a question from the press about the decision of including Cuba along with Iran, Sudan and Syria on the latest US State Department list of countries that allegedly "sponsors" terrorism.

Rodriguez also recalled that the Bush administration was considered around the world as "a violator of the international law, an aggressor and warmonger, and torturer."

"Bush has been the only president who has boasted about having carried out extrajudicial executions. His government kidnapped people, illegally transported them and created secret jails that even today no one knows if they are still maintained. He also created a concentration camp on occupied Cuban territory where people are tortured," he said.

Rodriguez noted that the US government "has historically had a long record of actions of State terrorism," and not only against Cuba.

"Orlando Bosch and Luis Posada Carriles, responsible for numerous terrorist acts, including the blowing-up of a civilian Cuban airliner, walk free [in Miami]" and the USA has not responded to Venezuela’s request of extradition for Posada Carriles to stand trial for the bombing and other crimes. Rodriguez added that the US has never tried the notorious international terrorist.

He drew a contrast of the situation of Posada and Bosch with the Cuban Five, who received a biased trial and harsh sentencing, remaining today as political prisoners in US jails after over a decade.

"Cuba’s position against all manifestations and forms of terrorism, wherever committed, against any State, or whatever the proclaimed intention, is clear and consistent with its behavior," said Rodriguez Parrilla. He noted that while Cuba has a clean slate of its own, the country has been for many years a victim of criminal acts.

Rodriguez further said that Cuban territory has never been used to organize, finance or execute terrorist acts against the United States of America, adding that the US Department of State, which issues reports on the subject, could not say the same," in regards to Cuba. (Cubaminrex- Granma)
