Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba in Argentina       

ARGENTINA, October 11, 2009. The 9th National Meeting of the Argentina"s Movement of Solidarity with Cuba  is expected to end here after two days of debates attended by 250 representatives of a dozen provinces.

  The meeting, opened by Governor of Santiago, Gerardo Zamora, and Cuban Ambassador to Argentina Aramis Fuentes, placed particular emphasis on the case of The Five anti-terrorists Cuban fighters unfairly imprisoned in the United States.

"A ten-year-old story, the different courts, a battle for peace" are some of the aspects discussed by panel number one.

The human rights situation of Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero and Rene Gonzalez and the repeated refusal of visas to their wives and relatives by the US have also been discussed during the meeting.

Another four working groups in the meeting dealt with the battle of ideas and the media battle, the struggle against the US blockade and the movement's organization and coordination.

A fifth panel dealt with aspects regarding Latin American nations' unity and integration. It assessed the international meaning of the Cuban Revolution, the Island's international solidarity through the teaching method "Yes, I Can" (Yo si puedo) and the eye-surgery program Operation Miracle, among other proyects.

In her speech yesterday, Lilia Zamora, a member of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, praised the work done by the 101 Argentinian organizations of solidarity with the Island.(Cubaminrex- PL)
