Work of Cuban Doctors Acknowledged in Guinea Bissau
Cuba, Dec 18. - Adulay D. Jassi, director of Guinea Bissau’s National Medicine School, highlighted in that African nation the work of the Cuban voluntary health workers who have just concluded their mission there.
The island’s doctors were honored during a farewell ceremony attended by Cuba’s ambassador to Bissau, Pedro Doña; Andres Bahamonde, head of the Medical Brigade; and Silvia Reinoso, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, besides Jassi.
The director of the National Health School congratulated the physicians for their work and devotion to help his country’s public health system.
He recalled that Cuba’s first medical cooperation with Guinea Bissau began with the doctors that travelled to that nation as combatants to help it obtain its independence and stressed that their example is still in the memory of his people.
He added that the doctors now returning to Cuba take with them the love and solidarity of his people, which will never forget them.
After presenting them with certificates for their excellent performance, the head of the Brigade highlighted the discipline, readiness and quality with which they carried out their teaching and medical tasks in the regions were they were located.
The ambassador pointed out that they followed the example of others who preceded them, a mission that has served to train doctors locally and offer medical assistance to the population, a task Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro entrusted them with in 2005. (cubaminrex - acn)
