Cuban ambassador receives Spanish language teachers
SURINAME, march 24, 2010.- Andrés González Garrido, ambassador of Cuba to Suriname met with a group of 23 Spanish language teachers from Suriname on Saturday 20 March 2010. The group teaches Spanish at different school levels in Suriname.
The teachers are taking courses and receive training under the second phase of the Spanish language project, a Cuban cooperation project aimed at training the Spanish language teachers. Two Cuban consultants, the professors Vilma Páez and Noel Fernandez, both from the Oscar Lucero Moya University, in the province Holguín, are assigned to this Project.
In his speech the Cuban ambassador emphasized the significant results achieved with this Cuban cooperation project. The director of the IOL, Archie D.Marshall, expressed his gratitude for the results his institution has achieved with this project and he congratulated the Cuban professors with the work they have done.
The Cuban diplomat also applauded that the project includes a study tour to Cuba. At the beginning of April this year the 23 teachers and Mr. Marshall will travel to Cuba. They will participate in several workshops and meetings at the University of Matanzas, visit places of historical interest and attend the 7th International Conference on Languages, Communication and Culture “WEFLA 2010” which will be held from 22 -24 April in the province of Holguín.
Mr. Marshall said to be very pleased to visit Cuba once again and to have the opportunity to learn about its education system and experience its culture.
The second phase of the Spanish Language Project will conclude in August this year in Paramaribo, the capital city of Suriname, a Dutch speaking country in South America. (Cubaminrex-Embacuba Suriname)
