Bolivian Students of Medicine in Cuba to Finish their Major in their Homeland.
CUBA, November 17, 2010.- A group of 1,600 Bolivian students from the Havana-based Latin America School of Medicine (ELAM) in Cuba will return to their country in January of next year so as to reinforce the work of Cuban doctors in Bolivia.
The Cuban ambassador to Bolivia, Rafael Daussa, who attended a meeting of the Andean Parliament, said these students will continue their major in their country because they need to get acquainted with Bolivia’s diseases, medicines, etc.
Daussa pointed out that 1,400 health professionals from the Cuban medical brigade in that country have attended to 43 million Bolivian patients since 2006, and they have saved around 41,000 lives and performed more than 570,000 eye operations.
The diplomat also said that these figures illustrate the efforts of Cuba to help the people of Bolivia improve their health standards. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
