Cuban Cement Shipment Arrives in Venezuela
CUBA, December 28, 2010.- A Cuban ship loaded with 2,355 tons of cement for the construction of homes arrived in Venezuela on Monday.
The information was released by Cuban ambassador to Caracas Rogelio Polanco, who said that this was the first of nine shipments destined to assist Venezuela following the heavy rains that affected at least 130,000 people, the Cubadebate website reported.
"This is our contribution to the Venezuelan people, who has always helped Cubans when we have been hit by hurricanes or under difficult situations," said the diplomat.
Polanco stressed that the cargo was handed in with "great satisfaction and revolutionary pride" and he noted that Cuba promised 6,900 tons of cement to Venezuela, so other shipments will be made as of January.
The diplomat added that some 500,000 square meters of cement tiles and 200,000 square meters of ceramic tiles for house roofing will be also shipped to Venezuela, as well as 32,000 mattresses from the island’s reserves to be distributed in different shelters. (Cubaminrex-Granma)
