Ecuador Thanks Cuba for Study on the Disabled.
CUBA, September 15, 2010.- Ecuadorian Vice-president Lenin Moreno reiterated the gratitude of his people for the cooperation Cuba has given Ecuador in the study of the disabled. Moreno told Prensa Latina news agency that the bio-psychosocial and clinical-genetic study was carried out for the first time in this country, with the participation of Cuban specialists. He added that the results of that study will allow his government to implement policies for technical devices, exercises and training, among other aspects, as well as those related to work, recreation, sports and health.
Along with colleagues from Ecuador, Cuban specialists have carried out the Manuela Espejo Mission, visiting each and every house in all neighborhoods, including those in remote areas. This program, named after the sister of the forerunner of that nation’s independence, Eugenio Espejo, is carried out under the leadership of Lenin Moreno himself, who suffers from a spinal problem that prevents him from walking.
