The Cuban ambassador in Lusaka sees off the new Zambian students to Cuba.
ZAMBIA, August 25th, 2010.- The new Zambian students to Cuba have been seen off by the Cuban Ambassador in Lusaka, Carmelina Ramirez, together with H.E. Nevers Mumba, Zambian Ambassador to Cuba and Hon. Clement Sinyinda, MP, Deputy Minister of Education.
The Cuban Ambassador to Zambia highlighted the friendly relations between both countries for decades. She said that more than 30 thousand students from all over the world are studying in Cuban universities at present, as part of the island’s contributions to the development of the third world countries.
Ambassador Mumba thanked the Cuban government for giving this opportunity to the Zambian people. He praised Cuba’s efforts to give free education to thousands of foreign students including Zambians in spite of the economic constrains caused by the American economic blockade against Cuba. Today Cuba assists us in giving the scholarship, but before Cuba has played a very important roll during our independence wars against colonialism. The Ambassador said Cuba offers more than others developed countries. He insisted that Cuba has invested in the development of others countries in a very sincere manner.
On his side Hon. Prof. Clement Sinyinda, has reiterated that Cuban people has shares the trench and its blood fighting together with our fellow Africans for the independence of Namibia, Angola, Zimbabwe and others, even some of them died here for this continent. He encouraged the new students to work hard, to learn not only professional skills of Cuban doctor but the spirit of the Cuban people, as a way to develop Zambia. He urged them to be open and try to learn as much as possible.
The farewell was also attended by some of the former graduates in Cuba that spoke about their personal experiences and encouraged their fellow citizens to be good students, and be grateful for this opportunity that Cuban government and Cuban people are giving them.
