Timorese Medical Students Trained in Cuba Continue Studies in East Timor
CUBA, December 30, 2010.- The first 100 Timorese students who concluded the fifth year of their training at the Latin American Medical School (ELAM) in Havana are already pursuing their sixth year of studies in East Timor.
The students were welcomed by Dean of the National University Medical School Yamila Valiente, who introduced them to the study program.
The Timorese students were briefed on the sanitation programs underway in that Asian nation, professional ethics, and other issues of interest for their performance in the study and community outreach programs they are assigned to, the AIN news agency reported.
Cuban Ambassador to East Timor Ramon Hernandez spoke of the achievements of Cuban professionals currently working in this country in the fields of health and education.
A total of 453 fourth and fifth year medical students trained in Cuba will conclude studies in East Timor.
In a recent visit to Cuba, Timorese President Jose Manuel Ramos-Horta expressed his gratitude for the work carried out by the Cuban health and education professionals, who have treated thousands of people and have taught more than 70,000 people to read and write. (Cubaminrex-Granma)
