Energy-Saving Project Resumes In Jamaica With Cuba’s Cooperation.

 JAMAICA, March 31, 2011.- Last Tuesday, 22nd March, the official ceremony on the occasion of the resumption of the Cuba-Jamaica energy saving project was held in Kingston.  In that ceremony, held at the Meadowbrook High School, the School Principal, Mr. James Robertson, Minister of Energy and Mining; Mrs. Hillary Alexander, Permanent Secretary in the aforesaid Ministry and Ambassador Yuri Gala Lopez, Head of the Cuban State Mission in Jamaica, took the floor.

In their respective speeches, Minister Robertson and Permanent Secretary Hillary Alexander thanked the cooperation offered by Cuba within the framework of this energy saving project.

On the other hand, Ambassador Yuri Gala Lopez mentioned the significance of the resumption of this bilateral project of which implementation had been interrupted temporarily in August 2007. Moreover, the Cuban diplomat offered facts on the economic and environmental impact that the implementation of five stages of this light-saving bulb distribution project had, based on estimates. At that time, 55 out of the 60 Jamaican constituencies were covered.

Present in this emotive function, were teachers and a large number of students of the aforementioned high school, who gave a warmhearted welcoming, both to Ambassador Yuri Gala and the Embassy’s Counselor, Marcial Melian. Some of the students chanted traditional songs, while others exchanged amicably with the Cuban diplomats and asked questions about this bilateral project and the Cuban reality.
