Former US President Clinton Recognizes Cuban Cooperation in Haiti.
CUBA, 7 April 2011.- Former US president William Clinton, UN special envoy to Haiti, admitted on Wednesday the importance of the Cuban cooperation in that country, which was devastated by an earthquake in 2010 and by the cholera epidemics.
The Colombian president, Juan Manuel Santos, transmitted the recognition to the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, during a session of the UN Security Council on the reconstruction of Haiti, after Rodriguez’s speech.
Clinton entrusted me with expressing his appreciation to Cuba for its work in Haiti, said Santos after the Cuban top diplomat concluded his speech before the Security Council session.
The former US president, who attended the first part of the session, is also the UN special envoy to Haiti.
The cooperation program launched by Cuba in Haiti has currently 1,117 health workers, including 923 Cubans and 201 from other countries, graduated in Cuba, including Haitian youngsters. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
