More Paraguayan Youths to Study Medicine in Cuba.
CUBA, March 22, 2011.- A group of 18 Paraguayans were chosen to study at the Havana-based Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) where more than 600 youths from that South American nation are already being trained as health professionals.
According to Prensa Latina news agency, after the call for the new scholarships was issued in a press conference last March 4, almost 80 applicants underwent a period of interviews and entry exams that were assessed by Cuban doctors there.
The new scholarship holders will travel to Havana in early April and will join other Paraguayan youths majoring in Cuba, mostly in medicine.
ELAM will graduate this year the largest number of Paraguayans since the school’s first graduation in 2005. Out of them, 143 will return to work in their communities in Paraguay. (Cubaminrex-AIN)
