Nicaraguan Major thanks Cuban doctors for their collaboration.

NICARAGUA, 16 March 2011.- Managua’s major Daysi Torres thanked Cuban eye specialists Tuesday for helping dozens of thousands of people from her country to recover or improve their sight.

As part of the Miracle Operation program, the Cuban specialists have performed more than 75,000 eye surgeries on Nicaraguans since 2007.

The surgeries were mostly on cataracts and pterigium, told mission coordinator in Nicaragua Cuban doctor Vicente Moran told PL.

The brigade of 45 doctors and other health specialists have also provided treatment to patients suffering other eye conditions such as glaucoma and retina disorders, Moran explained adding that the treatments including surgeries have been absolutely free.

The Cuban brigade has been working in the Ciudad Sandino in the outskirts of Managua; in Matagalpa, Puerto Cabezas and Bluefields.

The meeting with Managua’s major was also attended by Cuban ambassador to Nicaragua Eduardo Martínez Borbonet and several Cuban doctors participating in the collaboration mission. (Cubaminrex-ACN)
