Paraguayans Graduated in Cuba Return Home.
CUBA, August 18, 2011.- The second group of Paraguayan students of scant economic resources, made up of 50 youngsters, returned to their country as professionals, after concluding their university studies at higher education centers in Cuba.
A total of 49 qualified as physicians at Havana’s Latin American Medical School (ELAM), while the remaining student, Raquel Riveros, was the first Paraguayan woman to graduate in History in Cuba, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.
The first group of 43 Paraguayan professionals graduated from Cuban universities returned to their country on August 10, while by the end of the year another 156 youngsters from that nation are expected to graduate from higher education centers on the island –the highest figure since the beginning of this solidarity plan in 2000.
Also flying back home in the same aircraft was Fatima Cabrera, the first Paraguayan woman to graduate in Architecture at Havana’s "José Antonio Echevarria" Technical College, who was also the best foreign graduate of her course among students from 28 countries.
Humberto Muñoz, president of the Association of Parents of Students in Cuba (Apymec) said that, after these graduation in Cuba, more than 450 Paraguayan scholarship holders will remain studying on the island.
So far, more than 700 students of this South American state have concluded their studies at Cuban universities, most of them graduated from the ELAM. (Cubaminrex-ACN)
