Kenya’s Solidarity Movement sent their messages to Fidel and the Cuban people

KENYA, February 20th, 2008.- Kenyan has joined their voices to those that have expressed pride and recognition for the role of the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz as great leader whose ideas should continue being the point of reference for Cubans and the rest of the world.

As soon as the news about the announcement of Fidel was spread all over Kenya, representatives of the solidarity movement in Kenya came to the Embassy of Cuba to deliver their support and these messages to Fidel and its people:

“Dear comrades and friends,

Comrade Fidel Castro has served Cuba and the world socialist revolution for about 50 years. He has retired from active leadership of Cuba but he remains a respected and active revolutionary. I know this as I read his regular commentaries on world topical issues very often, thanks to the Cuban Embassy in Nairobi. Besides, I know Cuba is in the hands of the collective communist leadership and socialism will continue in Cuba. The Cuban people are educated and know the gains of their 50 years revolution which has survived despite the US economic, financial, social and cultural blockade. The retirement of Comrade Castro does not mean that Cubans will abandon socialism and go 50 years back to capitalism.
Long live comrade Fidel Castro!
Long live the Cuban revolution!
Long live socialism!

Mwandawiro Mghanga
Chairman of Kenya Cuba Friendship Society”

“Dear Comrades and friends:

We have today been reading about Comrade Fidel Castro's 'retirement' as the popular media wants to put it.

As far as we are concerned we share with pride the career of Castro as he led the Cuban revolution, sustained it together with the Cuban people in the face of 50 years of an inhuman economic blockade by the US, survived innumerable assassination attempts and is today recognized as the icon of the 20th Century who defended the rights of the oppressed.

He can rightly stand proud that he has successfully steered the Cuban Nation through 50 years and now hands it over to the capable hands of a leadership that is representative of all sectors of society. Cuba today, in spite of all the challenges it faces, is a symbol of a dignified and proud people that boasts not only of the best health care in the world but an education system that has ensured 100% literacy on the island. It serves the youth of the world with an education of international standards devoid of imperialist control.

We salute Comrade Fidel, the leadership and the people of Cuba at this important juncture in its history.

Zahid Rajan
Chairman of the Proliberation Committee for the Cuban Five”
