Cuban Hero Sends Letter to Fidel Castro CUBA, February 21, 2008.- A letter addressed to President Fidel Castro from one of five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters unjustly held in US prisons was published on Thursday by the Granma news daily. In his letter, Rene Gonzalez praises the example of the Cuban leader that “will continue to inspire countless generations of combatants in the world when you, us, and our pathetic enemies of today are no longer around physically.” “Fifty-five years ago,a humble soldier of honor, convinced that ideas can not be killed, preserved his life for posterity. Those who today use their fingers to count the number of consecutive emperors who have been humiliated by the resistance of our people, will not have enough hair to count the conquerors, tyrants and imperial servants who will be buried by your ideas,” Rene’s letter concludes. Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labanino, Rene Gonzalez and Gerardo Hernandez – internationally known as the Cuban Five –, have been imprisoned in the United States for more than nine years for infiltrating anti-Cuba groups in Miami, Florida, that were planning and carrying out terrorist actions against the island.
