Fidel Castro

Message of Condolence from Fidel to Chavez.

Dear Hugo:

I wish to convey to you the profound sorrow I felt at the death of Willian Lara, governor of the state of Guárico, always a friend and defender of the friendship between our two peoples.

He died defying danger and fulfilling his duty to the homeland and the Revolution. He did not hesitate for a second to cross the bridge already under the waters of the rising and wide river, as is often the case in Venezuela; he was concerned about people on the other side of the current. There was nothing more just than conferring the Order of the Liberator on him and the heartfelt words that you spoke at the foot of his casket.

But fate had it that another faithful fighter for the Bolivarian Revolution: Guillermo García Ponce, also died on the same day.

When, at the same time, the unfortunate air accident occurred in the Venezuelan state of Bolívar, something that is part of our agitated era, the world had evidence of what that Revolution means for the people: in a matter of minutes, all the resources available were placed at the disposition of the dozens of people who survived.

I wish to convey my most profound sentiments of solidarity to the families who lost loved ones, to those in which a member is fighting to survive, to the people of Venezuela, and to you.

Take heart and onward!
