Revolution and Fidel at Colloquium

CUBA, November 29, 2006.- Over 1,500 international figures are due to open in this capital on Wednesday the colloquium "Memory and Future: Cuba and Fidel," aimed at re-evaluating transcendence for the world of the Cuban Revolution.

Promoted by the Guayasamin Foundation, the academic meeting is part of activities started on Tuesday on occasion of the 80th anniversary of Cuban president, who celebrated his birthday on August 13, but requested to postpone the party due to his state of health.

Artists, writers, scientists, economists, lawyers, former presidents, singers, social activists and human rights defenders are expected to attend the two-day event at Havana’ s International Conference Center.

The forum will hold plenary sessions and three commissions dedicated to solidarity, achievements of the Cuban revolution and investment in technology development.

Celebrations to honor the island s head of State started on November 28 at the Guayasamin House, located in the Old Havana historical part, with an exhibition of 60 works donated by the Foundation to enrich the permanent exhibit of that institution.

Then, participants attended the opening of the Havana s San Geronimo College in the place where the first Cuban university was founded in 1728, and a cultural gala by Cuban artists at the capital s Karl Marx Theater.

The agenda also includes a mega-concert entitled "Todas las voces todas" at the Jose Marti Anti-Imperialist Tribune and a display of 100 original Guayasamin works at the National Fine Arts Museum. (Cubaminrex-PL)
