Chile Communists Award Fidel Castro

CUBA, December 8, 2006.- (Prensa Latina) The Chilean Communist Party (PCC) honored Cuban President Fidel Castro with the Luis Emilio Recabarren Medal, for being the creator of the second Latin American independence.

PCC president Guillermo Teillier delivered the medal on Thursday to Cuban Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon, who ensured to give it to the statesman, currently convalescent from intestinal surgery.

Teillier told Alarcon that in the 23rd congress of that political organization, run on November 25, the country unanimously decided to modify statutes to hand over this distinction, for a first time, to a foreign figure.

“Fidel Castro is the creator of the second independence of the peoples of our America,” states the medal that bears the name of the founder of communist parties from Chile, Argentina and Uruguay.

Alarcon was grateful for the gesture and said the president will receive it with great emotion and happiness.

Recabarren died in 1924, was a union leader in his country’s northern zone, and founded the Chilean Communist Party in 1912.
