Thoughts of Fidel Castro Underlined in Bolivia

BOLIVIA, August 16th, 2010.- The validity of the thoughts of Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro, was highlighted today at a workshop on the imprint of the Caribbean state on the processes of change like that Bolivia.

Cuba's ambassador in La Paz, Rafael Dausa, said Fidel's teachings and principles of solidarity and internationalism, as well as the ability to resist in order to overcome, can be seen in the results of the work of the doctors, educators and community social workers.

From 2006 to date, said the diplomat, more than 540,000 people have recovered their sight through Operation Miracle and 40 million have been provided free medical care.

The Moto Mendez solidarity mission has also studied more than 82,000 people with various disabilities, a survey that will allow the government of Evo Morales to implement public policies and integration into society, he added.

Fidel's concern for education, Dausa said, is palpable in this Andean country, where in 2008 over 824,000 illiterate Bolivians were taught to read and write, and today has over 175,000 post literacy students incorporated into the program.

At the event, also dedicated to celebrate the 84th birthday of the Cuban leader, Dausá stressed Fidel awareness of the missions that the Cuban professionals are performing and their living conditions.

During the seminar, several panelists spoke about the lessons of Fidel in education, journalism, medicine, his most recent analysis of the dangers of a nuclear war, the environment, external debt and about democratic processes like those of Bolivia, Chile and Venezuela.

The Bolivian Movement of Solidarity with Cuba for its part announced the opening of a Free Lecture on the thought and work of Fidel Castro in the Union Training School of Cochabamba (Central).

The tribute was also attended by Bolivian students of Latin American Medical School of Havana (ELAM), Cuban doctors and teachers serving in Bolivia, diplomats, Cuban residents and members of solidarity groups. (Cubaminrex – Granma)
