Leaders from around the World Send Fidel Castro Happy Birthday Messages.

CUBA, 14 August 2011.- Russia's President Dimitri Medvedev expressed Fidel Castro his best wishes on the occasion of his 85th birthday.

During a telephone contact and also in a written message, Medvedev said that the whole world knows Fidel as a prestigious leader and statesman, and he went on to stress that Fidel´s life is an honorable example of the service to the homeland and the people.

The Russian head of state said that Fidel continues to be the legendary Commander and national leader for the new generations of Cubans.

For his part, Fidel expressed his appreciation for the written personal congratulations he had received a few hours before and sent greetings to the beloved Russian people, which have played an important role on the island's revolutionary struggle.

The two personalities recalled the pleasant meeting they held in Cuba on November 28, 2008, and agreed once again that the bases for profound relations between the two peoples have been created -two peoples with a common history of many decades.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putting also joined the message of congratulations, along with several top Russian government officials.

Medvedev and Putting underscored the contribution by Fidel Castro to the establishment and development of bilateral relations of friendship between Cuba and Russia.

Meanwhile, the leader Sri Lanka´s Communist Party Dew Gunaesakara and the president of the National Liberation Front Party, Wiwal Weerawanza sent Fidel Castro their wishes for his wellbeing and good health after he turned 85.

Also in Sri Lanka, the Friendship-with-Cuba Society sent its happy birthday message to the Cuban Revolution leader, to whom the group wished a long life, so that he continues to guide the exploited of the world to find their new future. (Cubaminrex-RHC/PL)
